Memory Lane

It seems like just yesterday we started out on this crazy adventure into racing. Not fully realizing what we were getting into, we began down a path that we are still following faithfully today. It’s like it is just supposed to be this.  Since his birth, Zack has lived, breathed, ate, slept and dreamed racing.  Nothing is excluded……his whole life is his own “How bad have you got it?” campaign!

This year we begin our 7th race season, which doesn’t sound like a lot, but Zack just turned 14, officially racing half his life!!  Those of us near him know he has very high aspirations for his future. We have already had such amazing experiences, all which we cherish! From pitting our first kart from the bed of a pick up, to his sister’s tagging along every week to keep notes in his race book (and watching the boys!).  To track accomplishments, and road trips, National races, Divisional championships and letting a little track near Bristol become our home track, the wonderful people all along the way, there are SO many memories!!   And so many more to come!!  Here is to the past, a little tribute to Zack, who makes us proud each and everyday.

Here is to hopes that where we are going is half as wonderful as where we have been!

Even as a baby…..Zack had only a few things on his mind:  Steering Wheels and Tires!

It was like he was pre-programmed before birth!

We always knew where to find him!   J

And then one day a go kart entered the picture.  Zack was 7 years old.

Path Valley Speedway Park    Learning to drive on the top parking lot.

It didn’t take long…..he was power sliding the corners in about 30 minutes!

Zack “practiced” the whole summer of 2001 at Path Valley.

His first $5 payout is still framed.

In 2002 we began racing regularly at Shippensburg on Fri. nights and then Path Valley

on Sat. afternoons.  We raced an old Buller Chassis for our Rookie Year!

Caroline and Roy Ensor were instrumental in teaching all of us as we went!

And then it happened! June 23, 2002, in his Rookie Year,

Zack had his first Feature Win.  To this date, the sweetest night of our life!

Zack was Rookie of the Year in 2002

at both Shippensburg Speedway and Path Valley

In 2003, with the advice and encouragement of Caroline and Roy Ensor,

we bought Zack a “newer” chassis. He began driving a 2001 Shadow ZX1 and raced

for points at both Path Valley and Shippensburg that year.

Zack was the 2003 .425 Track Champion at Shippensburg

Zack raced the PDKA State series….setting a pole at Selinsgove

Zack (with Caroline and Roy Ensor) finished 5th overall

Racing was a family adventure with our perimeters expanding!

A fateful road trip down to Tennessee with a group from

Ensors on Memorial Day weekend in 2003 to Ashway Speedway

& Dumplin Valley set into motion a HUGE wave of change for us!!!

Bad weather in the Carolina’s re-routed our group’s travel plans and

we landed at these two tracks not knowing Zack’s destiny had changed!

The 2003 American Dream Challenge

July 4th weekend  Ensor Speed Shop Race Team

Beechnut Raceway Blountville, TN

Zackaryah was one of the 7 Ensor drivers ALL of whom brought home the CASH!

Caroline and Roy orchestrated a magical weekend that we were thrilled to be part of.

When Zack won his race….showing up at this little track none of us had

ever been to, and beating the locals: it was breathtaking.

It was also the turning point for us.  We finished out the 2003 season racing locally at home.

Zack was Shippensburg Track Champion that year and finished 2nd in points at Path Valley

(due to missing the July 4th weekend race.)

2004 was a huge transition as we decided to forego racing

locally in PA and we began a 25,000 mile journey down south.

Beechnut raceway became our “home Track” (479 miles one way!)  We raced there in the

WKA State Series and committed to racing the WKA National Series full time.

The pictures that follow below highlight our 2004 season when Zackaryah became

a DOUBLE WKA Series Divisional Champion and finished 8th in the WKA Nationals.

So we were having a banner year…..not knowing there was so much more yet to come.

Check back to see what happened when we returned to Beechnut in 2004 for the next
