The team is pleased to announce a close to the
2008 race season. Zack has finished 4th
in the points at
Zack has had some awesome support in the 2008
season! We are so grateful to
everyone. We are extremely proud to introduce “be Mechanical”
as our newest sponsor in 2008. Bill
Putman and Erik Lowe have been on board this past season and through their
generosity we were able to race the Lanco Labor Day Showdown, in addition to
being able to buy the tires we needed to complete the season. We were
extremely honored to have Bill drop in recently to see Zack and congratulate
him on the awesome season! Bill was
able to see the sprint car, talk to Zack about his goals and speak to the
team about both the strides made this past year and our goals for next year!
We were thrilled to have him be able to stop in, while in our area. Please check out their website to learn
more about them both and what they do!
Click here to see their website! Friday Sept 5th, Zack won his heat race! It was our first heat win all season. Unfortunately we were unable to follow it
up during the feature race, as the track changed and we did not adjust the
car enough and while Zack still had a top 10 finish, we were disappointed at
what might have been! With only 5
races left in the regular season we are counting down !!!
Friday Sept 26th: Despite drizzle, rain, and mist Zack had a
4th place finish in his heat and finished 5th in the
main Feature Race! With only 2 races
left in the season, he is securing himself a solid 4th place
finish in the points, as long as he keeps out of trouble continues the run he
has! Friday Sept 19th: Zack had a 3rd place heat finish
and an overall 6th place finish in the main Feature race, out of a
field of 18 cars! With only 3 point races left in the season, Zack is still
holding in 4th position in the points and we are winding down a
long and successful season! Lanco Saturday & Sunday August 30 & 31,
2008 LABOR We would like to thank B & E Mechanical for the
GENEROUS Donation allowing us 3 new tires!!!
Thank you Bill and Eric!! We would not have been able to attend the Labor Day
Shootout without the support of you all and we are humble and grateful for
the opportunity you have allowed us!
Zack and the Flyin’ Falini!
Getting ready to qualify! Labor Day at Lanco!
Welcome home again, AJ!!! J Lanco A HUGE 4th place finish at Heading to Clyde Martin (Lanco) on Saturday, we used the
opportunity for a last test and tune, hoping to be able to attend the Open
Race this upcoming weekend. Zack did
his part and drove the wheels of a car that we experimented with jetting and
set-ups on. Racing in to the main race
via a consi, we then proceeded to give him too hard
of a tire for the track, making the car loose and almost unmanageable. Starting 21st in a full field,
Zack finished 16th, after being caught up in 3 cautions involving
OTHER drivers spin outs. While we were
not thrilled with the finish, we learned HUGE amounts of information and are
hopeful we will be able to return this upcoming weekend! See you at the track! Kathleen and Team Lanco The past
two weeks have been tough ones! On
Friday, August 8th, we had a wild night at THANK YOU
RUSS FOR YOUR EXCEPTIONAL TALENT After having some serious issues with our transmission we
had some ongoing questions answered after the race, taking to the track when
the events of the night were through for some test runs. We decided it was past time for a bottom- end rebuild, and this past week our motor was
sent out for a total rebuild. It was
discovered there were some cracks in a center case, some bearings giving way,
2 cracked gears and a bent fork! After
getting our motor back for this past weekend we were excited about the
possibilities! Nonetheless, the following week the situation got even more serious…With
a fresh motor on the car and bad karma warned off, we arrived at Panic set in, as we do not yet have
our back up motor rebuilt with a much needed new crank, yet it was in the
trailer. With no other options…….again
we started thrashing. Never expecting
to use this motor, we had our work cut out for us. We had intakes and reeds to switch, fuel
lines to cut and re-route, fuel pumps to install, and worst of all a
questionable top end. The piston was
not new, left in there from last year!
Unable to accept defeat and knowing we could NOT afford a DNF, we
drained the coolant, disconnected the electrical and made the swap in about
an hour. Just in time to get to the
grid for our race, we were unable to initially fire the car and then
discovered no compression and throttle.
Unable to start the race we slowly accepted the fact that we were done
and it was all for nothing. Our first
DNF. Devastating is not the word. Loading up and heading home we were left to
wonder what happened to the engine that should have been fresh and
essentially brand new. Somewhere around IT WAS FABULOUS! We managed to figure out the new jetting
necessary for the motor, made 100% right calls as the track changed
tremendously over the course of the evening and by the main race had
qualified 13th in a full field!
Zack raced his heart out with a motor he could feel was less than perfect
and finished 10th! TWO top
ten finishes in two races at Lanco!
The redemption was sweet and words can not describe what Zack did on
that track. He was simply
brilliant. Our primary motor will be rebuilt
again this week…..there was so much devastation inside it is virtually
impossible to determine the cause.
There were parts and pieces scattered throughout the bottom half of
the motor and holes blown out of the cases. However we are 100% confident in Hyper’s knowledge and expertise, knowing this week we
will have a perfect motor returned to us!
See you at the track! Kathleen and Team Two weeks of racing to get caught up on! J Zack had a 9th
place finish last week at The dog days of summer are
here………….finally past the half way point of our season. Zack and I traveled, just the two of us,
this past weekend to The team has been steadily making
positive strides in figuring out the chassis and our new engine this year. We
have been analyzing and calculating the feedback and information we get each
week from our driver and car. Building
each week, we are so excited about what is coming! This week, Zack qualified 6th,
started 5th and finished 7th in his feature race. He got up to third and ran exceptionally
well considering his car was LOOSE due to his crew chief NOT tightening him
up enough. He ran a heck of a race and
solidified himself further in the 4th position in points. And again, we have made some exciting
discoveries that should be an incredible help to us going forward………….so keep
checking back……THINGS Kathleen and Team Lanco After a 5th place finish Friday night at Path
Valley, the team headed to Lanco Saturday, enjoying having Dad along for the
first time in several weeks! After
several ill fated attempts to get to race a feature race, we were excited and
ready! Friday night was a typical warm,
humid July evening. However the track
conditions were not so hot! With very difficult track conditions to navigate,
the only thing to do was to throw the “rough track set up” on the car and
hope for the best. Zack did an awesome
job considering all and finished an excellent 5th place! That moved him officially into 4th
in the points!! We were thrilled to
say the least! If we continue to
concentrate on finishing well every week the points will take care of
themselves! In between Friday night’s race and
Saturday afternoon at Lanco, Dad invested in our effort by upgrading the
steering system from an older style rack & pinion frame mounted steering
system to a newer axle mounted system.
The install was relatively easy and Zack now has a much smoother
steering system that will make the car much easier to wheel. His small frame
is not a very good match for the force of this micro sprint! Now he has a
much easier time steering. Heading to Clyde Martin Speedway
(Lanco) with dad along was fun!
Practice and qualifying went well.
Zack qualified 13th out of 22 cars. He was more than ready when the green flag
fell and the first of 25 laps began!
The restart and beginning of the race was riddled with yellow flags
and cautions. Zack drove through and
around several wrecks and avoided the typical short track Saturday night
drama! Rolling forward, after several
incidents, Zack took the checkered flag in 9th place! We were thrilled to have just finished,
our FIRST official feature there…….and yet a TOP
Zack is learning more each week, and now we are past the halfway mark
of the season. While there is still
plenty of exciting racing to go, we know that being consistent, steady and
patient leads to success. So come out and join us! We look forward to seeing you at a
track!! Kathleen and Team
Zack at Lanco Saturday July 19th We have had a whirlwind of racing this past weekend! The team was at We have had an extremely busy week racing….3 races in 4
days. All 3 events had us staying very
late at tracks…due to rain. Friday
night Zack finished 13th, still holding 5th in the
points. It was a very off night for us
but it motivated us to make some changes to our set up. We arrived home
around Saturday was spent
cleaning the mud covered car and getting ready to leave for Lanco Saturday
afternoon for our 3rd attempt at actually getting in a race
there. Rain AGAIN delayed the
evening’s line-up and it was well after Sunday was spent
tearing down the car and blocking the car to check set-up. Monday a trip to
Hyper was necessary to get some upgrades to our wing supports installed, a
little welding that was needed done and then Mondayafternoon
we headed out again to Needless to say even though the last 3 weeks have been
frustrating, we have been analyzing our books and technical data and have
realized where and why we are screwing up.
We are hoping to get back on track and back up front. Thank you to Robin and his gang that have
been traveling to Kathleen and Team Friday June13 & Lanco It was a mud-fest and extremely late-night at Zack
qualified 11th for the main race.
With a field of 19 cars, he started on the inside and the race rolled
green for 17 laps until a red flag caution. He was in 10th place
at that point. The two cars that were
involved and removed from the race were in front of him. Upon the restart of lap 17, another red
flag event that again involving another 2 cars, both of which were in front
of him. The cars were removed from the track, and mother nature intervened
yet again. The
following morning our car owner requested we make preparations to race at
Lanco the following weekend, in addition to our Friday night at We
arrived early enough to get our car teched and get
our driver signed in. Russ was along,
as he was the previous night, and we made minimal changes to the car. A gear change to accommodate the 1/8 mile
track versus the ¼ mile track of
Zack was able to
get onto the track for 2 sets of warm ups.
He loved it! He sat for the
remainder of the practice runs and watched, observing drivers lines and the
different ways to get around the track.
He was encouraged by what he was learning and very anxious to get to
heat racing. The first things on the
schedule were make up races from May, and unfortunately that is as far as
they got. Near the end of the final
race the rain came…AGAIN! So we headed
home but with much optimism. Zack had been on
the track and we got all the busy stuff out of the way. Found out how the program runs….basically
primed and ready now! So we are really
looking forward to this upcoming weekend and a full schedule of racing!
PLEASE come out and see us! Kathleen and Team A PERFECT STORM!!!!! “…..a critical or disastrous
situation created by a powerful concurrence of factors…..” Friday night was an incredible culmination of many factors: people, experience, nature, time, luck and dues paid! We had our best finish yet……an incredible taste of what is yet to come…our near perfect storm! Zack and
the team had an incredible night……so many things went right. Still we have miles to go, but we are
bolstered by our success in getting the previous two weeks worth of bad karma
off our back! The team arrived early enough to have
things in order by practice. We are so
glad Dad was able to be along this week !!! J By the time warm ups were finished it was
obvious track conditions were going to be a huge factor. There were terrible ruts dug into turn 3
& 4 and they were only avoidable by either going above or below them,
both of which was not the normal racing groove…... Russ was along again too! We had been changing things slowly and
meticulously for the past few weeks, building on some things with our driver
that had begun to show evidence of paying off. Zack was being given a very
good ride…..it was up to him to pedal……. Heat races were over…..we had finished 4th
in the second heat. That put us 8th
in the lineup for the main race. More
changes yet during intermission, tweaking here and there. The humidity was a HUGE factor in our
jetting and Mr. Barry Dicely (
engine builder extraordinaire!) had given us some direction in that
department. Everything coming
together………. Then we discover they have inverted the
top 8, which gave Zack the pole position!
Decisions still being considered……and finally made. The final preparations were complete and
Zack was ready to roll. John had cut 3
& 4 with the grader during intermission and the track was much better! It took the third start to get the race
under way, (due to other drivers jumping the start) and Zack shot out in a
commanding lead. From the pole, he
proceeded to lead the first 8 laps during which Sean McAndrews,
having moved into second, was doing his best to get around Zack to no
avail. Then Zack’s wing adjuster knob
slid out of position and while shoving it back in, Zack missed a shift. It was all Sean needed to get a good run on
Zack and ultimately Zack finished: THIRD! An incredibly long overdue FABULOUS
night! We were stunned and thrilled
and grinning and texting and proud! Zack
wheeled the heck out of the car which happened to be absolutely perfect! We have been working our way (with just 7
races in) towards getting things figured out.
We are cautiously optimistic that we can build on our success and
continue with this upward momentum. A special thanks to our friend Robin and
his buddy Dave who were in attendance also.
It was very cool to have friends there to share! So many people
stopped by our pit to give shout outs and shake our drivers hand. Sean McAnrews was
more than generous in his kind words during his victory lane interview. We were grateful to have the opportunity to
race competitively with such a class-act driver. We are also confident there will be more
to come! So watch for the points to be updated
this week. We anticipate staying
solidly where we are at the moment.
Last year this time we were 22nd in points………………oh what a perfect storm! Kathleen and Team Friday May 23 and Friday May 23, we were
about 6 laps into our feature race, starting 10th and running in
the 8th position when we were taken out by another driver who came
down into us from the outside….blowing our right rear tire thus ending the
race for us. Zack officially placed 13th in
the final race results. It was
frustrating when we again posted personal
record lap times over the course of the evening’s events. However after points were calculated we
remained in 5th place overall.
Friday May 30, we had an
evening that went from bad to worse even though we tried to persevere! Hot laps were uneventful. During our heat race, while in 4th
position after starting 7th, the right front steering arm
busted. Zack had NO control steering
the car yet managed to save himself from wrecking. During the remaining heat races and during
intermission we scrambled to make repairs before our main race. (Of course we were 1st in the
line-up!) Russ was able to make
repairs to the steering arm (GREAT Kathleen and Team The Winsett boys……giving Zack a helping hand! J Rained out!!!
After a weekend with a disappointing 9th place
finish, the team is looking forward to a good fast run this upcoming Friday
night. We survived another mud--fest this past weekend…..typical with all the
rain this time of year! John and his
staff did an excellent job at getting the track run in for the event. Zack turned his fastest times to date during his hot laps,
then proceeded to do the same during his heat race. Our class
was the second to the last in the line up which had Zack suiting up after
Kathleen and Team We had made
several changes to the car and were excited to finally get to race and find
out what we had! A gear change made
2 weeks ago showed great promise and Zack seems to love it. I had also rebuilt the top end and replaced
some bent wing runners to name a few things.
Needless to say it was an excellent night. Zack qualified 3rd
in his heat and had another Top Ten finish in his Feature Race
! The cool afternoon turned into a
slightly chilly evening. The track had
a lot of rain the previous week and not much sun. Our 270 class was the first
in the evening’s line up. First out
for warm-ups on a wet sloppy tack is not fun. Additionally there is not much
to be learned by that run. We left the
car alone and hoped the track would come to us, but it was not going to change
until well after our feature race that evening. Zack qualified 3rd in his
heat and had been shoving his wing all the way back to tighten the car. So we made some adjustments before the main
race and Zack raced his heart out. It was 20 laps of straight green flag
racing!! With this being only the 4th
race of the season we are still learning this new engine (hugely different
from what we had) and are quickly figuring some serious stuff out. We also feel we have made so many upgrades
to the chassis this past winter that we essentially have a finely tuned “new”
car. Zack is finding it easier to handle
overall and we are consistently finishing in the top ten each week……edging towards
the front! Zack led the first 3 laps
of his heat race Friday from the pole……he was very impressive! A special thanks to Russ who tagged
along and was a great help. AJ is
still an invaluable member of our team and even from afar is extremely
important to our efforts this year! We
are truly grateful for everyone’s support!
We are gaining in so many areas….it is only a matter of time before we
visit Thank you
all again!
Kathleen and Team Rained out again! Kathleen and Team Fabulous
Weekend to report on! It was a sunny
88 degrees when we new pulled into the track on Friday April 18th.
We had beautiful weather and great results!
Zack qualified 5th in his heat after starting 7th. That put him in the 9th starting
position for the main race. We made
some changes to gear that he really liked.
He had a good run and finished 8th in the feature….another
Top Ten Finish!! Zack is currently 6th
in the overall points. Kathleen and Team Fri/ Sun April 11 & 13 Rained out TWICE in one weekend! After traveling both Friday and Sunday to the
racetrack, we have been rained out both times. We look forward to this upcoming Friday
(forecasted to be Kathleen and Team Zack and
I traveled to Zackaryah had limited hot laps (practice) and our heat race was
almost a cold run. There was a total of eighteen 270 micros in attendance
with nine divided among two heat races.
Zackaryah started his heat race in 7th
and finished 5th. During an
inversion of the field that had the top place qualifiers starting BEHIND him,
Zack started 10th in the main race and finished 9th. He muscled his way through the field with
some side by side racing with only one caution during the 20 lap
Feature. A slight problem with his Nomex hood constricting his view on the final lap lost him
a position coming out of turn 4 heading towards the checker. But solidly another Top 10 finish, and given the slick track we were pleased with our
result and intend to build on our forward momentum. Looking
forward to the upcoming weekend, we have some changes to make in the car that
we hope will further advantage our driver and his ability to do what he does
best. 12,000 Look
forward to seeing you at the track! Kathleen and Team Points racing has started at After
starting on the pole for his heat, Zack swapped between 2nd and 1st,
finishing 2nd. OUR BEST
QUALIFYING It was discovered after the race was
complete, that Zack had lost his air filter on the track. The team scrambled
to find a replacement and then made some slight chassis adjustments to loosen
the car. (J AJ) Some body
panels were modified to remedy what we thought
was the issue with the carb and air filter
clearance. The field
was inverted for the Feature race and after having posted his fastest lap
times ever during practice and his heat race, we were excited and looking
forward to the next 20 laps! Zack
started 7th in a field of 12. And
then……. after taking the green flag, a caution immediately came out. Zack had slowed to a stop on the front
stretch, causing the caution. He was
pushed around the track back to us at the starting grid, after it was thought
his computer had malfunctioned and he would not restart. I checked and he computer was fine…..then I
saw it. The entire carb
and air filter were off!! It was heartbreaking……yet we scrambled at the grid
to get a flashlight and screwdriver and put it back on. Meanwhile the race
had started, and only if a caution would come out, could Zack have a chance
to get out. At lap 19 of a 20 lap
race, a caution flag flew. Zack flew
off the grid, passed 2 cars on the re-start and managing a 10th
place finish. “That Racing” is a term
used when things go wrong and no one can or will take the blame. THIS was 100% the crew chiefs mistake. I knew there were issues with the carb since day one and had been complaining about
clearance issues for weeks. I should
have taken more effort in making sure it was race ready. Believe me when I say that the carb will NOT be a problem going forward! So, Zack
is 10th in points. We have
a car that is incredibly fast and are so looking forward to getting back to
the track! We don’t care HOW cold it
is on Friday…….THIS team is Thank you
everyone for keeping us in your kind thoughts! Your emails are appreciated. We are getting close to 12,000 hits
here……Keep checking back each week! Hope you
see you at the TRACK!! Kathleen and Team The Zack Fouse Race Team was proud to have our microsprint on display as part of the Path Valley
Speedway contingent at the Chambersburg Mall Car Show Feb 1, 2 and 3rd
as part of their annual Race Weekend event.
Zack joined other drivers on Friday evening at Center Stage for an
autograph session! We ended up
“living” at the mall for the weekend and stayed from Thursday thru Sunday! J
